STEPH TEETER
ARTIST STATEMENT
I returned to fine arts after a career in web design and computer graphics. I studied fine arts (as a minor, with majors in biological science) in University but the introduction of personal computers and computer graphics during the 1980’s, and marriage to a computer scientist charted my course for twenty years.
I am currently working with traditional mediums but my skills in technology are valuable as learning and development tools. I now work full-time in a dedicated studio adjacent to our home in Boise. I resumed my fine arts studies by taking private lessons with a professional artist (Carol Peek) and daily access to incredible online resources.
My primary 2D mediums are oil and pastel paintings. I use multiple mediums on some works (acrylic, graphite, ink, pastel). My subject matter is mostly representational – animals, humans and landscape. I have owned horses and competed in equestrian competition (distance riding) for 30 years and this has given me a unique ability to capture horses in art.
I now also create 3D works, cast in Bronze, Acrylic, and 3-D printing. I also create original sculptures combining various mediums.
I find that working in both 2D and 3D has improved my understanding of form and anatomy. I go back and forth between the various mediums as inspiration dictates!
