“Road to Melba” by Betty Mallorca

It’s fall in McCall, and winter is on its way. On October 6, Gallery Fifty-Five will host a reception for painter Betty Mallorca and for new work by ceramicist Katharina Roth. Betty specializes in landscapes and abstract paintings that celebrate color and the natural world. Her response to nature and color is visceral, a response that she expresses in large format to powerful effect. Gallery Fifty-Five member Katharina Roth has a new line of work in porcelain that she is excited to share with you. You will admire the delicate quality of Katherina’s work, influenced by her studies in Switzerland, the U.S. and China.

Also, meet our newest member, Linda Berberick, who brings not only traditional ceramics to the gallery but plenty of humor with her fabulous ceramic figures and faces.

Meet all the artists and see the art at our First Saturday reception, October 6, 4-8 p.m., with music by Mike Rutledge, wine by Bistro 45 and appetizers.

Gallery Fifty-Five is a nonprofit artist cooperative.

Columbia River Basin by Rachel Teannalach

Gallery 55 is displaying 15 paintings by landscape painter Rachel Teannalach, which will be given away to donors to Advocates for the West. Advocates for the West is an environmental law group whose mission is to win for the West’s natural treasures and wildlife. The 15 paintings represent some of the organization’s most pressing legal battles – defending our national monuments, protecting the Salmon River, saving bighorn sheep populations, and more. The goal is to raise $15,000 for each cause. At the end of the campaign, the paintings will go to whoever makes the largest gift to their chosen cause.

We have invited Oregon potter Terri Axness and Idaho painter Mary Butler to show their new work at the gallery in September. Terri, our guest artist, draws her inspiration from “the incredible diversity in the pacific northwest,” with treatments that vary from the serious to the whimsical. Gallery member artist Mary Butler references her Idaho ranch upbringing, her new work expressively capturing the movement of horses in action in the Idaho landscape. July is an exciting month for Gallery Fifty-Five. Not only do we have equine art by Liane Kerting-Vick, ceramics by our newest member Candace Bonawitz, a pocket sketching workshop by Kath Macaulay July 10-12, but also cello art (cellos made into art, yes) by Pam McKnight and Stephen Douglas. Come down any time in July to see the cellos or come to the reception on July 7, 4-8 pm. The cellos will be auctioned off in September to benefit the Treasure Valley Artists’ Alliance scholarship fund. Stephen’s cello magically plays music. Both cellos are beautiful.

For more information about the auction, see treasurevalleyartistsalliance.org/cello-art/. For more about Kath Macaulay’s workshop and how to register, visit galleryfiftyfive.com/workshops/pocket-sketching-for-fun-and-travel/.
