MIKE HERTHER

ARTIST BIO
Born and raised in Eagle, Idaho, Mike’s first exposure to leather was in shop class, and that love of leather never faded. In college he studied archaeology/anthropology concentrating on the Plains Indian tribes. From this he has in the past done several artifact reproductions. He has done everything from preparing the hides of deer and elk to making his own leather for war shields, parfleches, quivers and more. Several of these reproductions have decorated homes in McCall.
Since his retirement, first from logging and then from the City of McCall as a heavy equipment operator, he has made sheaths for private individuals and companies such as Rocking One Knives and Phil Feinberg. Now he makes custom knives of his own.
Mike and his wife Sharon own Herther Leather, a shop and art gallery, at their Donnelly home, where they do exactly what they love to do…create!
