McCall resident Dave Thomas is our August guest artist. Dave Thomas’ five-decade career draws on art history, the landscapes of California, Montana, and Idaho. Born in Fresno in 1949, he began painting at fifteen and has sustained an uninterrupted studio practice ever since. His formative years on the California coast — surfing and sailing — shaped a lasting artistic philosophy centered on instinctive, responsive decision-making, echoed in his approach to canvas. Thomas earned his B.F.A. and M.F.A. from the California Institute of the Arts in 1974. His work has been exhibited across the United States and is held in numerous private collections. He lives and works McCall, Idaho.
